Teacher, mother and Francophile, Alexis Cale is extremely passionate about everything French. Alexis first went to France at the age of 13 and fell in love with the culture, the people, the food and the language. As a high school student every extracurricular activity revolved around traveling abroad. After studying the French language for six years she made the decision to study abroad in Montpellier, France at the Université Paul Valéry. Out of sheer necessity, Alexis was able to navigate through a foreign land using only the most basic of language skills. Upon deciding to completely immerse herself in French classes and only socializing with French people, her language skills developed at an extremely rapid pace. Returning to the United States after one year of living abroad she had mastered her accent and had a strong foundation of knowledge in the language. She was then hired by Purdue University to teach French classes levels 101 through 605. After three years of teaching French she pursued a Master’s Degree in Applied French Linguistics and continued to teach for two more years at Purdue. Exploring various Francophone countries such as Morocco, Belgium and Canada helped to create a global understanding of the importance of the French language. Her mission is to inspire children to develop a love of foreign language so that they may better understand their place in the world and appreciate all of the beautiful cultures of this world.
